For effective chlorine disinfection, retention/contact tanks are essential to provide the necessary contact time. A standard setup includes a 120-gallon retention tank, which allows for 20 minutes of contact time at a maximum flow rate of 6 gallons per minute. For higher flow rates, additional retention/contact tanks may be required to ensure adequate disinfection.
